SHIFT 14 | 2,600 SF | Edgewater, NJ
Nestled in the hills above the Hudson River, the house reexamines the typical relationship between neighbors. The second floor is rotated or shifted to maintain existing view corridors from adjoining properties, create privacy, and maximize views of the river while the first floor geometry responds to functional constraints and alternaitve views to greenery beyond. Careful placement of walls of glass provide maximum daylight, views, and ventilation while still maintaining privacy. Multiple roof decks extend the living space and break down the mass of the house to reduce it's bulk and create intimate outdoor areas for contemplation and relaxation.
