HUDSON RIVER A | Edgewater, New Jersey

This 3,000 sf modern home is one of only a handful of single family houses located on the Hudson River with both an uninterrupted view of the Manhattan skyline and a private dock. The spectacular site's substantial constraints were used to generate the house's form and became driving forces in the design. The house has been lowered into the rock to minimize the impact on neighbors' views and to bring the lowest level closer to the river. Conventional room arrangements have been inverted with living spaces above bedroom levels and even a garage above the living space.  The 'yard' takes the form of a terrace below the house at the edge of the river with an infinity edge pool and large walls of folding glass. A copper clad lounge on the highest level cantilevers past the main structural frame affording panoramic views both up and down the river through the custom frameless glass windows.  Custom features include a private elevator, monumental glass skylight, frameless windows, monumental sliding glass doors, and an innovative concrete structure. The exterior is a composition of copper, Chinese limestone, wood, and glass.
